For many years, many travelers considered Long Beach to be a distant third behind Los Angeles and Orange County when it came to places they wanted to visit while in Southern California. However, thanks to upgrades Long Beach has made in its harbor area in recent years, it has become a place that tourists will want to visit in it’s own right. The harbor is now home to upscale restaurants, a variety of entertainment opportunities and a hip, boutique hotel, the AVIA Hotel Long Beach.

Shoreline Village and The Yard House

Shoreline Village is one section of the harbor area, located right on the water, that features small shops and fashionable restaurants. It is also the place where visitors can find the water recreation they are looking for. Headlining the Village’s dining offerings is Yard House, which is most noted for having the large variety of 250 beers available to serve. There are so many beers in fact, that they can be ordered mixed together in several interesting combinations, or even for dessert. They take Lindeman's (Rasberry) Framboise mixed with gourmet vanilla ice cream make turn in in to a “draft beer float.” However, Yard House is not just about the beer, it also serves a delectable and fresh menu with dishes such as an appetizer of grilled artichoke served with dipping sauce and house fried potato chips, an entree of jerk chicken served with a shrimp stack or their own twist on the California sushi roll.

The Pike at Rainbow Harbor

The Pike at Rainbow Harbor is an area that covers both sides of Shoreline Drive, which is the main road running through the area just off the Long Beach harbor. One can get to either side of the Pike by using either the sidewalks or taking a skybridge that goes over Shoreline Drive. Down by the water, visitors can visit the Aquarium of the Pacific, and further inland find a merry-go-round and ferris wheel along with movie theaters. Those activities along with shops and restaurants can make for a fun afternoon and evening, which can be followed by a late night comedy show at the famous Laugh Factory.
